You will hardly miss this large cream-coloured building in the city centre. The lower section was constructed in the 13th century, while the upper dates to the 14th century. The interior contains elegant 15th-century cloisters, different chapels, columns and pointed arcades. The Cathedral is a burial place of Menéndez Pelayo, a prominent local scholar, literary critic and historian.

The city has beautiful beaches and splendid churches — but don’t think that a swimsuit is a suitable garment for both! The latter were built for worship, not just sightseeing. Make sure that your clothing doesn’t reveal large portions of the body. Take a lightweight scarf to add something to your outfit if that’s required.

The Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Church was built in the late 19th century in Neo-Gothic style. The building is quite large with a 20-metre high central nave. The beige and green facade looks unusual. The church has many beautiful stained glass windows and paintings on the walls. It looks immaculate as the last restoration was carried out not so long ago, in 1993. A must-visit among local religious buildings!
