Madrid travel tips
Lavapies is one of the central and bohemian districts of Madrid, but not the best choice for tourists
Lavapies is not the most pleasant area to stay, although it is one of the central areas considered bohemian. There are great underground spots here (for example, La Tabacalera, where everyone gathers in the summer, from skaters to fashion designers). The area is home to artists and art workers. But there are also plenty of unemployed immigrants, homeless people, and people offering you something not entirely legal at every turn.
Stop by the Mercado de San Miguel market to join the tapas culture
Mercado de San Miguel was opened in 1916. Now over 30 vendors offer the finest jamon, fresh oysters and seafood, a variety of pinchos (snacks), classic tortilla, champagne, wines, and cocktails here.
The average bill per person in a standard cafe in Madrid is 15-25 euro
The average bill depends on the level of the establishment. In ordinary cafes, dinner will cost 15-25 euro. Snacks on the run will cost 5-15 euro. A romantic dinner at a high-end restaurant will start at € 50 per person.
