The UT Gardens are the official botanical gardens of the state of Tennessee and are part of the UT Institute of Agriculture. There are more than 4,000 species of annuals, perennials, tropical plants, trees, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables, and it is fun to follow the various trails and learn from the informative signage. There are often special events taking place, including art exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, and plant sales.

The East Tennessee War Memorial is a memorial park situated in the World’s Fair Park and remembers all those Americans who have lost their lives in the various conflicts and also recognises the medals they were awarded. There is no admission charge, and it is well worth visiting to appreciate the peace and serenity of the place.

James White was the founder of Knoxville, and you can learn all about his frontier lifestyle in the fun, hands-on museum called James White’s Fort. The museum portrays the life of 1776-1780 perfectly with its exhibits and regular live demonstrations by blacksmiths and also of spinning and open-hearth cooking. There are guided tours available every day. The museum is closed whenever the UT team is playing at home because of the lack of parking.
