Copley Square was named after a painter and is a nice little park where you can listen to street musicians, see Hancock Tower, which is New England’s tallest building, and admire Boston’s Trinity Church, one of the city’s oldest buildings. The architectural style of the church is Richardsonian Romanesque, and it influenced all the churches across the country because of the beautiful combination of rough stones, a massive tower, and a clay roof.

Walking through the northern part of the city, look for a plaque at the intersection of Commercial and Foster St. Here in 1919, Boston was flooded with molasses: a 2 million gallon cistern burst in a nearby alcohol distillery, and a two-story wave of sugar syrup hit the streets of the city. Locals claim that even today, the houses here have a scent of caramel — try to smell it yourself.

The Massachusetts State House sits atop Beacon Hill. The building was built by the famous architect Charles Bulfinch in 1798. Pay attention to the capitol dome: it was originally wooden, but now it is covered with gilding. At the very top, you can see a pine cone that symbolises the importance of the timber industry in Boston during colonial times.
