Warsaw travel tips
1) Watch for traffic signs before crossing Warsaw streets | Poland in general and Warsaw, in particular, is not tolerant of jaywalking. Crossing the street outside the designated areas will get fined, even if the street is empty. Don’t expect that your foreigner status will make you an exception. You will have to pay a few hundred zloty right away. On top of it, the busy road traffic in Warsaw may be dangerous. Some drivers fail to yield to pedestrians. Paying attention to the signs and nearby vehicles may save you a lot of trouble! |

2) Learn about Polish history in WWII at the Warsaw Uprising Museum | Warsaw suffered great devastation during World War II. The museum tells about the attempt Varsovians made in 1944 to liberate their city from the Nazi occupation. Eight hundred exhibition items and around 1,500 photographs, sound recordings, and films will tell you about the Warsaw uprising history. You can also get on top of the 32-meter tower to see a panorama of the city and, in particular, the nearby Wola area. |
3) Visit the half-ruined but very atmospheric Szmulowizna district in Warsaw | The walls of the old buildings are dirty and have bullet holes. The courtyards are small and unnaturally quiet. This site won’t leave anyone indifferent. The area will take you to bombed-out post-war Warsaw when the battles have already ended, but a peaceful life is still far away. |
