Edinburgh travel tips
Princes Street is Edinburgh's main shopping street
The favourite place of shopaholics in Edinburgh is Princes Street. It runs through almost the entire city centre, from the railway station to Lothian Road. All major shopping centres and chain stores, as well as souvenir shops, are located here. Parallel to this street, there is George Street, also famous for its shops.
Spit on the paved Heart of Midlothian opposite St. Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh
Opposite St. Giles' Cathedral, you can see the paved heart called the Heart of Midlothian. You may notice that the locals walk by and spit on the road. Previously, this place was a prison for people sentenced to death. If the locals wanted to save a person, they came to the prisoner's cell, said their name, and spit. If they spit a lot, the prisoner was freed. Now it is believed that if you spit on that heart, you will be lucky.
Walk through the Gilmerton Cove tunnels full of unsolved mysteries in Edinburgh
Gilmerton Cove is a network of underground tunnels and premises in the southeast of Edinburgh. Scientists still do not know who and why dug these underground passages, but they agree that it was more than 200 years ago, and the tunnels are much longer and deeper than previously thought. You can only visit Gilmerton Cove as part of a guided tour every Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 and 14:00 and some weekdays at 11:00. The price is ca. 8.5 euro.
