Lyon travel tips
Tap water is safe in Lyon
French cities and towns are equipped with modern water treatment plants, so you can drink tap water. The sources of non-drinkable water are marked with a warning sign "eau non potable". If you are still not convinced or you don’t like the taste of tap water, bottled water is always an option. Many supermarkets are closed on Sundays, but most likely, you will find some ‘épiceries’ (corner grocery stores) open. Your hotel may also sell bottled water.
Look for the Roman baths in Lyon
Ancient Roman theatres are an obvious destination for a tourist in Lyon. However, few venture to the nearby ruins of Roman baths behind a modern apartment block. There is little to be seen today, but you can let your imagination loose to see this part of Lugdunum city. The buildings, which stood there, were erected two millennia ago! A nice quiet place for a tet-a-tet with local history.
Toll roads make driving around Lyon more expensive
Many French highways are privately operated. Using such a road may be faster, but it will cost you from €15 to €40. Note that some toll booths don’t accept credit cards, so bring some coins with you. The National roads are free to use. However, by choosing them, you may have to drive some extra miles (and burn more fuel as a result).
