The Idaho Botanical Gardens offer the perfect serenity for reading a book! The gardens are in the grounds of the ‘Old Pen’ — the penitentiary (prison) — and contain a wide selection of plants, including those that are native to the area, succulents and a beautiful display of roses. There are several themed areas such as ‘The English Garden’ and ‘Alpine Garden.’ There are vegetable and herb gardens, too, and a garden devoted to meditation. There are often events and workshops held in the gardens, and in December, ‘Winter Gardens Aglow’ is when the garden is transformed by the festive glow of thousands of small twinkling lights.

If your children would love an action-packed time, head for the Altitude Trampoline Park at 1301 North Milwaukee Street. There are numerous trampolines and many other great fun attractions, including a foam pit.
