Tumski Island isn’t only about churches and cathedrals. The Botanical garden was built at the beginning of the 19th century on the former riverbed of Odra. Its 7.4-hectare area has a huge collection of plants, sculptures, aquariums, a plant shop, a cafe, and a big pond with lovely bridges. Note that the Garden is open from early April until mid-November. You will have no trouble finding a comfortable, quiet spot there and forgetting about the big city around.

Jaywalking is illegal in Poland, and Wroclaw is no exception. Some streets in historic districts are open only for pedestrians, but you have to watch for road signs and traffic lights elsewhere. Failing to do that may cost you a fine. If that is not a reason enough, remember that the share of pedestrian fatalities in Poland is still quite high compared to the EU average. Polish designer Oskar Zieta created an eye-catching installation on one of the smallest Islands of Wroclaw. A curiously-shaped pavilion consists of numerous steel arches up to 7.5 metres high. Each arch has a polished mirror surface. The unusual shape, structure and numerous mirrors create a play of light and shade. It would be a great place for experiments with your camera!
