Granada travel tips
See the famous cave houses at the Sacromonte Caves Museum in Granada
The Caves Museum is located in the Sacromonte district, close to the historic Albayzin neighbourhood. It has ten cave houses, which were typical local dwellings in the past. Here you will also learn about the origins of flamenco and even attend a live show! Besides, the museum tells about the climate, flora, fauna, and agriculture of the area.
Street drinking is prohibited in Granada
Officially, purchasing and consuming alcohol in the street is illegal in Andalusia. The groups of drunk youth may entice you to throw caution to the wind. Nonetheless, remember that one drink may get you in trouble with the law. Granada has numerous bars, and hostels with cosy courtyards are not uncommon. Drink responsibly!
Visit Granada Charterhouse — one of the best examples of Spanish Baroque
This monastery was founded in 1506, but its construction took 300 years. The building may not look too promising on the outside, but don’t the exterior discourage you! The interior is full of intricate ornamentation and complex geometric surfaces. The gems of the monastery’s decorations are the tabernacle by Francisco Hurtado Izquierdo and the famous sacristy, created by Luis de Arévalo and F. Manuel Vasquez between 1727 and 1764. Besides, the charterhouse has a great collection of paintings.
