Katowice travel tips
Relax in Katowice’s Valley of Three Ponds
The Valley of Three Ponds is the most popular recreation area in Katowice. 420 hectares of the park are full of trails for hiking, running, or cycling. Despite its name, the area has about a dozen different ponds. The most popular one has a beach for bathing, another is used for water sports. Besides, there are some tennis courts, a seasonal campground, and a restaurant. A nice place to have a picnic during the warm part of the year!
Choose clearly marked street crossings in Katowice
Some foreigners may wonder about the Polish pedestrians' discipline, who choose designated areas to cross streets. Jaywalking is illegal in Poland and is punished by a fine. However, even more important is that the drivers don’t expect you to run across the street wherever you like. Walking a dozen of meters to the nearest crossing or waiting an extra minute for the traffic lights to change is a small price to pay for your safety.
Learn what Silesian rural life looked like at Upper Silesian Ethnographic Park in Katowice
This open-air folk park transports visitors to an idyllic village. You can explore some 100 buildings constructed from the late 18th to early 20th century. The list includes granaries, thatched-roof homes, wayside shrines, wooden churches, and windmills. Many of those buildings have indoor exhibits. However, take into consideration that they are closed on Mondays. If you get hungry, grab a bite at an old inn. Leave the bustling city and take a dip into the atmosphere of the old Polish countryside!
