Alicante travel tips
1) Explore the castle of Santa Barbara located on the top of Mount Benacantil in Alicante
The castle of Santa Barbara is a fortress of medieval Arabian origin. It crowns the mountain and is seen from every point in Alicante. If you decide to go to the castle on foot, the early morning hours, before the sun gets at its zenith, are the best time. But you can also take a lift located behind Postiguet Beach. Once reaching the battlements, you can marvel at a panoramic view of Alicante, the mountainous countryside and the Mediterranean Sea.
2) Go to the main public venue that hosts concerts, shows, and other events in Alicante
Teatro Principal de Alicante is the major venue in Alicante where cultural events, music festivals, opera, and dance shows occur. The façade of the building is neoclassical as it was constructed nearly 180 years ago. The interior is designed in Italian style. The space inside the theatre is divided into a lobby, a stage, and a cave in the shape of a horseshoe. The teatro is situated on Plaza Ruperto Chapí. You can get there by bus or tramlines.
3) Come to see an exciting exhibition in Museu de Fogueres in Alicante
The Fogueres Festival Museum is dedicated to Sant Joan Bonfires, the most known and widely celebrated holiday in Spain. Its celebration takes place in June and engages everyone in the city. The exhibition showcases the evolution of the Fogueres de Sant Joan Bonfires in Alicante. You can observe the myriads of artefacts like puppets, costumes, and photos from the former festivals. Find the Fogueres Festival Museum in Rambla de Méndez Nuñez.
