Kraków travel tips
Touch the history and compare Queen Jadwiga's foot to yours visiting the Carmelite Church
On the wall of the Carmelite Church “Na Piasku,” you can find the footprint of Queen Jadwiga. According to legend, Jadwiga once visited the church and saw a tired bricklayer. She put her foot on a damp stone and offered to take the gold buckle from her shoe. Stunned with joy, the bricklayer made a raggle, repeating the footprint of his queen. Then this boulder was used to decorate the facade of the church, and it is still there.
Euros are not accepted in Krakow. Make sure you have zloty
Even though Poland is part of the European Union, this country still uses its own currency, the zloty. Euro are not accepted almost anywhere, except for the most touristic cafes and restaurants. To exchange money, look for a “Kantor” sign; it’s an exchange office in Polish.
Look out for thieves in the Krakow old city centre
Everyone's beloved old city centre is considered the most criminal area at the same time. There are about 2,000 crimes a year. The second most dangerous area is Nowa Huta. And although it is popular with Krakow youth, tourists are not recommended to walk there late. And you'd rather not travel alone around there.
