Málaga travel tips
Climb the Castillo de Gibralfaro to enjoy the unparalleled views of Málaga
The castle was originally built in the 10th century by the Arab rulers as extra protection for the famous Alcazaba fortress. It sits on the 130-metre Mount Gibralfaro, providing a breathtaking panorama of the sea and the city below. The solid ramparts look majestic, rising from dense woods of eucalyptus and pine. If you plan to climb all the way to the top, take some water, as there will be no kiosks on your way.
Visit the Santos Mártires Church, one of the oldest in Málaga
Built in the 15th-16th centuries in honour of San Ciriaco and Santa Paula, the patron saints of Málaga, this church houses five canonical brotherhoods. That is a record number for the local churches. The building has the Gothic-Mudéjar style with Rococo elements, added during the 18th-century renovation. Its interior with the beautiful images of saints and the Neo-Baroque altarpiece is breathtaking. There is no entrance fee, but a small donation will be appreciated.
There are few public toilets in the centre of Málaga
Numerous WCs on the seafront are open from 10:00 till 20:00. Note that there are not many of them in the city centre. Remember to make the most of the cafes and bars you visit. Besides, you can look for toilets in the central car parks and at the El Corte Inglés, a large shopping centre. Extra tip: have some toilet paper with you; public WCs may run out of it.
