A Coruña travel tips
Sir John Moore was a British commander in the Napoleonic wars who died in the battle preceding the British evacuation of La Coruna. With him, the British forces could fight another day in the battle against Napoleon. The garden is in a part of the old city with excellent views over the port. The main attraction in the garden is the tomb of Sir John Moore. It’s located exactly where he fell during the battle of Corunna against Napoleon's forces in 1809. The gardens and tomb are well maintained, a perfect place to rest and to learn some history.
Do like locals do and grab a coffee at one of the city’s many cafés. You will not regret it if you try a Galician speciality: tarta de Santiago at Cafe Hispano. To find it, head to Rúa Galera, 32-34. It’s an almond cake, which is typically dusted with powdered sugar in the shape of Santiago’s cross.
Teatro Rosalia is an ancient 19th-century theatre by the Marina. It hosts some of the city’s prestigious cultural events and the schedule on regular days is filled with operas, musicals, and classical Spanish plays, such as Divinas Palabras (Divine Words) by Valle Inclán. Tickets are around €6.50.
