Plan mountain recreation
Just 20 minutes north from Downtown lies the Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area. This is a beautiful area with great views of Treasure Valley and a range of activities. In the summer, it is the perfect place for hiking and mountain biking, and there is a climbing wall, too, and the chance to climb Shafer Butte — the highest peak in the Boise Ridge Mountains. In the winter, there is skiing, snow tubing and snowboarding to enjoy. If you are new to these sports, there are also lessons available. All year-round, the chair lift is in operation, offering great panoramic views.
Is there a wannabe gardener in your family?
Knowing quite where to start can be tricky, but BUGS (Boise Urban Garden School) is the perfect place. At the BUGS organic garden, staff show adults and children the fundamentals of gardening in an environmentally friendly way. In the summer, there are one week courses for children to develop their gardening and cookery skills. BUGS is located at 2995 North Five Mile Rd.

If you haven’t tried fishing before, the River Boise presents the perfect opportunity as the river and the ponds along the Greenbelt are regularly stocked with fish. The river is particularly popular with fly fishermen.
