Madrid travel tips
Rent a car in Madrid only if you plan to travel to nearby towns
Madrid has very heavy traffic and frequent traffic jams, so it makes sense to rent a car only for sightseeing outside the city. Still, the public transport is quite convenient and is presented by metro and buses. Car rental prices in Madrid start at €30 per day.
Take a lake boat ride in El Retiro Park in central Madrid
El Retiro, in the centre of Madrid, is one of the most beautiful parks in Europe with a special atmosphere. There is a boat rental station in the park, where you can ride on a small lake, in the middle of which there is a monument to King Alfonso XII. Palacio de Cristal is also located in the park. It is a crystal palace in which the Reina de Sofía Museum holds exhibitions and installations.
If you want to spend an evening like a Madrid local, go on a binge in several bars
It is in the spirit of the Spanish tradition to party at several bars during one night. The evening usually starts with tapas and an aperitif in one place and continues with dinner in another. Many people go to bars and clubs to drink cocktails around 01:00. On weekends, the centre of Madrid does not sleep until at least 04:00-05:00.
