Gdańsk travel tips
The Neptune Fountain is one of the Gdansk symbols
A bronze statue of the Roman sea god is the central point of Długi Targ (the Long Market). It was cast and brought to Gdansk from Bavaria, Germany, in 1617. Since then, it has become one of the Gdansk distinctive landmarks. During WWII, it was dismantled and hidden along with many of the city's treasures to be restored in 1954. Useful tip: aim your camera from below and try fitting both the Neptune and the town hall tower in the picture.
Go to the Gdansk zoo — the largest one in Poland
The Gdansk zoo, occupying 126ha, has around 900 animals from all continents. Some of them can be found only here. The zoo is extremely popular — in 2019, it had almost half a million visitors! The cost of the ticket does not exceed 8 euro per person. You can easily spend most of the day here, walking its alleys, taking a train tour, or climbing the rope park.
Keep your headlights on even in the daytime when driving in Gdansk
In Poland, you should turn headlights on not only after dark but also during the day, all year. That means using daytime running light or low beams. Note that headlights can also be used for unofficial communication between drivers. If a car on the opposite lane 'winks' you, stay alert! There might be a radar or a road patrol ahead.
