The Gdansk Bay has several sandy beaches, including Jelitkowo and Brzezno. Those are great places to sunbathe and relax. However, you should mind the colour of the flag on the beach before swimming. The white one means that everything is alright. The red may mark not only that lifeguards are away but that the water is dangerous in some other way. For instance, the local Sanitary Inspectorate may forbid entering the water because of a high amount of some bacteria.

The lighthouse at Nowy Port in Gdansk was built in the 1890s. It was the first one on the Baltic to use electric light. From its top, at around 27 metres, you can enjoy the view over the port and the whole Bay of Gdansk as far as Gdynia and Hel Peninsula. The building's interior has some wonderfully preserved historical optical devices. On top of it, you can listen to the story of the lighthouse keeper.

In Tri-city on the Baltic shore, you can find some historic ships converted into museums. Sołdek in Gdansk was the first ocean-going vessel for the Polish shipyard industry. This coal and ore carrier made its first journey in 1949. The three-masted Dar Pomorza (The Gift Of Pomerania), moored at Gdynia, is 40 years older.
